
Dr. Dorothy Black, DVM, MPVM, DACVECC
CEO and Founder, Criticalist
Dr. Dorothy (Dorrie) Black, DVM, MPVM, DACVECC, is the CEO and founder of Omega Veterinary group. Dr. Black graduated Pomona College, CA.
Prior to entering vet school, she gained experience as a dolphin trainer and research assistant in a cognition perception laboratory of the University of Hawaii Kewalo Basin Marine Mammal Lab in Honolulu, Hawaii.Dr. Black then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master’s Degree of Preventive Veterinary Medicine from the University of California at Davis.
While completing her Masters she worked as a general practitioner in Sacramento at Banfield Pet Hospital.Dr. Black subsequently completed a small animal rotating internship at VCA Hotel Circle, San Diego, with emphasis on small animal and exotic emergency medicine followed by a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Black spent the next 5 years as a clinical assistant professor at Texas A&M developing her interests in ventilation and teaching. She returning to the Bay Area in 2013 as a criticalist with Animal Internal Medicine and Specialty Services. Dr. Black founded Omega Veterinary Group in 2023 with the dream and ambition of creating a true critical care focused hospital for the small animals of the Bay Area.
She is passionate about providing stellar and progressive medicine and advancing critical care with special interests of respiratory medicine & ventilation, infectious disease, antimicrobial therapy, and coagulation in critical illness.
